My kids love watching Handy Manny and I also watch with them. And to tell you the truth, I enjoy watching this animated series. It’s sometimes so surreal that Manny and his tools can fix anything and everything but hey, this is just cartoons and cartoons are made for kids. So my kids also believed that Manny is the only person who can fix everything. Maybe if their dad is here they will think otherwise, ha ha! Their dad is not a handy man. He’s a nurse and a pastor but he turns to be my handyman when needed. I remember the time when we first transferred to our house. There are lots of things to be repaired and some of the things, he fixed by himself. We had wood fences like those of Richmond wood fences and he’s the only one who installed it. And I know that if the fences needs repairs, if he’s here we won’t need professional Richmond fence repairs. I know I can trust my husband’s handy man skills. I am amazed of how guys when they become husbands and dads, they can turn to be someone wives can turn to for home repairs. Isn’t that great?"It's not what we have in life but who we have in our life that matters."

Time To Get Organized...Again
When I was working I seldom check the state of our kitchen and everything in it. It’s because I lack time. Now, I could see all the things that need to be replaced, repair, replenish and etc. I noticed I have a lot of utensils that are unused and just getting dusty. Some of my kitchen appliance are just stock in the cabinet and remained unused since we bought them, like my le creuset braiser. I also notice that I have so much plate in our “platera” but are not being used every day. They are only getting so much space. Next week, I’m planning to reorganized my kitchen, give out those plate that I don’t used and maybe I’ll go visit Dapitan Arcade for a new set of decoration for the kitchen.Wednesday, December 29, 2010
General Cleaning
The year is ending and we are now facing yet another year. And I believe like me, most of moms now are having their general house cleaning. As matter of fact I’ve been seeing some garage sale here and there, even inside our compound. New year means new beginnings for most of the people so they want their house to be free from all sorts of disorder and garbage. Some would even have an Upholstery Cleaning Herndon to make sure that their upholstered furniture are clean as the New Year arrives. A clean and orderly house is a simple way to make a good start in the new year right?

House Blessing
I read an article about house blessing or some call it house warming rituals that home owners usually perform when they have acquired or is planning to live on a new home. There are numbers of rituals like each guest would bring firewood and build fires in all the available fireplaces, boiling of milk to throwing of coins. But homeowners need not buy gold coins for this to make it extra special. Ordinary coins will do. Also some make loud noises during house blessings. They clang pans, ring a bell, drum, or other noise (even play your favorite loud music) and send away all unwanted influences.

Getting Organized
Just the past two weeks, I was able to buy some useful and much needed stuff in the house. Last week, I bought a TV stand and yesterday I was able to buy the kid’s closet at a really bargain price. Bought it at Php1,700 but the transpo to the store to our house cost me 100 so I shed out a total of 1,800. My next goal is to visit the furniture shop near us to canvass of customized cabinet and bookshelves. Then hopefully the week before Christmas, I’ll be able to buy new curtains, cushion covers and futon cover for the sofa. I’m happy to see that our house is looking better now that I’m at home.

How to Keep Your Kitchen Clean and Organized
You spend a lot of your time in your kitchen, and it is hard to keep it clean if you do not have an organizational plan in place, especially if you have a large family. Every member of your family should know the rules and be held accountable for them. You don’t have to run your kitchen like a restaurant, with commercial refrigeration and all, but there should be straightforward rules to ensure everyone does their part to keep it clean and even the younger kids should participate.
Suggested Kitchen Rules:
• Don’t leave dishes in the sink. It is easy for dishes to get stacked high if everyone just puts them in the sink. You should have a "no dishes in the sink" rule. This means that everything should go straight into the dishwasher and if the dishwasher contents are clean, the person has to unload it so their dirty dish can go inside.
• Clean up after yourself. This one is just common sense. There should be a rule that if a person makes a sandwich, or anything else, they have to clean off the counter when they are done and leave the place as clean as it was before they started.
• Close all bags and containers tightly. Food can easily go bad if it is not stored properly. Stale bread can be a problem as well as dried-out cookies. Make it a rule that everything has to be closed tightly after something is removed.
• Use only one cup or glass per day. Cups can be a pet peeve of many moms because they can be left everywhere around the house. If this still continues to be a problem in your home, even after the rules are set in place, color code cups so kids know which one is theirs.

Home Improvement Basics
Home improvement projects do not only improve our living space, it also adds value to our homes. But fact is home improvement projects entails money. And if we don’t have sky-high budget, sometimes, we tend to just ignore about improvements in our homes even though it’s quite necessary. But did you know that even if you only have a little budget you can actually make home improvements? You just have to prioritize the basics and do first things first like minor replacements. This is what we did when we decided to renovate our house. Although we really need replacements of windows va, we went into repainting the house first. It did wonders because with just a little budget the house looked nicer and the changed of paint made a big impact on the look and feel of the house. Then when we already had the budget we started investing on doors, windows and door screens and installing new tiles. The trick is do first what can be done with a small budget then splurge with the money is there for more improvements.

What To Do?
I’m getting fed up with our water pipes and kitchen faucets. The repair man and plumber that I asked to repair it several times have been scratching his head as well. He said that instead of continuously repairing it, we have to replace it already with a tougher pipes and quality faucet brand such as Kohler kitchen faucets. I told our owner of the house about our endless water pipe problem and he seems to be ignoring our requests. The husband said we should not be the one spending for each repairs since we have done our part already and the problem now has to be take care of by the owner. But as I’ve said he doesn’t seem to care. I don’t know what to do now ,sigh.

Handyman
The home depot near our office is having another sale again. If hubby’s here, that big tarp announcement will surely be an eye candy. When he’s here, he got himself something to get busy of…repairing anything that needs to be repaired at home. I did have an instant handyman! In fact we even bought some tools and industrial products for his new found hobby. But now that he’s away from us again, we have no choice but to ask for the help of paid repair men whenever we need some assistance at home. And the last time was when the water pipe broke.
Well, I’ll admit, a man in the house is really..really..really important.

Too Much Pressure, Broken Pipes
We woke in the wee hour of the morning today because of a familiar sound in the kitchen. We heard dripping and splashing sound like rain…I was right…one of the kitchen’s water pipe broke again. Since hubby was not here now to repair it, we just immediately turn off the main valve. The water pressure in our area is so strong that it can broke pipelines. We are not the only household who experience the same problem.
Anyway, I just told the owner of the house to check on it today and maybe we will replace all the faucets with Moen kitchen faucets.

Luncheon Meat: Purefood's v. Argentina
Whenever I visit the grocery store, I always check if Purefood's Luncheon Meat is already in stock. But unfortunately, it's out of stock until now. I don't know why. Among the local brands Purefood's Luncheon Meat (not the Chinese style) has been the favorite at home. I've been trying to find out he story behind it's being MIA (hehe), but alas, I can't find one. So for the mean time, I'm buying Argentina ham as an alternative. Argentina Ham has the taste and texture I want. Lesser difference from Purefood's. But I still hope that Purefood's luncheon meat will come back soon :D
Unsettled Differences

Posted date: June 09, 2009DON’T go looking for Colgate toothpaste in SM Supermarkets. Don’t go shopping there for Palmolive soap or shampoo either, because chances are, you won’t find any. That’s because the SM group and fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) manufacturerColgate-Palmolive recently got into a tussle over billing issues, according to our sources.According to theColgate-Palmolive camp, the disagreement came about after SM insisted on a payment period beyond what is normal for FMCG items (a longer period would have positive and negative implications for either party, since “time is money”).The SM camp, meanwhile, says the terms are static, and that a newColgate-Palmolive manager who is “unaccustomed to the way business has always been done” has been pushing for better terms (that are clearly not better for SM).
Thus, Colgate-Palmolive’s products and merchandisers are no longer a fixture in SM Supermarket premises, prompting a high-stakes stand off between the two corporate giants. Both firms rely on each other for a significant amount of their revenues. SM—the country’s biggest supermarket chain—is easilyColgate-Palmolive ’s largest vendor.Colgate-Palmolive products, meanwhile, are some of the best-selling products of the chain, with daily sales estimated in the millions of pesos.Yesterday, several SM Supermarkets showed thinning stocks of Colgate toothpaste, while Palmolive bath products were “out of stock,” according to the staff.Neither side seems keen on prolonging the agony, however, and a source from the SM group said that they are “looking forward to resolving any differences.”
It's been a year already and it seems that until now, they haven't settled their differences yet. So if you want to buy Colgate and Palmolive products, you might want to check out Robinson's supermarkets or other grocery stores.

Customized Cabinets
Almost all the tv stands that you can buy now in the department stores and furniture shops were made of low quality materials. They are only nice to look at but it cannot withstand time. We’ve had a TV stand like these but it didn’t survive the flood last year. So now, I’m planning to have our cabinets and entertainment racks including bookshelves to be customized by our friend who is a very skilled carpenter. I’ve already drawn the design and I’ll let him check on the materials. He said that we can save a lot and guarantee quality cabinets that will last by having it customized. I know that I can rely on his words.

Weekend Mission: Clean Up and Organized!
It's almost two weeks now since we moved and until now, the house is still a mess. We don't have a helper yet so the work load of cleaning, clearing, arranging things and dusting are left to me and my husband to do. And since I'm at work 5 days a week, the workload is not yet done until now. We don't even have our Christmas decors yet as well since we still have to look for the decors in the storage room. Even the curtains are not yet hanged. Hubby already installed the hooks for the drapes yesterday so when I arrived from work, I'm excited to hang the curtains but got disppointed when I could not find them. They are still in one of the boxes in the storage room. Oh well, I think the coming saturday will be alloted for the continuation of our general cleaning and installing of window screens since dust is everywhere in the house! How I wish we had a central vacuum that will sucked them all! lol...
I admit I'm meticulous and a little OC when it comes to cleanliness and organization inside the house but now, I have to be patient and hopefully everything will be done before December.

One thing every household should have.
Sure enough when I got home that day, the power is out but the little enjoyed it still having enough light and a fan to make her comfortable even during black-outs. I think it's a must that every household should have an emergency rechargeable light always ready and available inside.
