Manic Monday #8

What sound or noise do you love?
I love the sound of my daughter's giggles. Because when she laughs it eases the stress of my day. It also make me feel secure that she's ok.

What sound or noise do you hate?
..I don't like it when she cries. Specially in the middle of the night.

What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?

It's my dream to just be "plain housewife" or a SAHM so I can have enough time for my family, specially my daughter.

What profession would you not like to do?
Work that will cause me to do a lot of paper works and reports

Obese.

I always see this man on the shuttle station every day when I go to work. He is a “barker” (a Filipino term for someone who calls for passengers) on the shuttle station where I get my ride for work.

He’s good looking but he’s obese. I can’t help but feel for him. I was thinking, there are a lot of diet pills in the market, in fact there’s an appetite suppressant called Phentermine which help reduce weight in obese patients. But why are a lot of people like him seem to be unbothered about their weight or how they look? Don’t they know that having a good body helps in gaining a person’s confidence? I think his size is five times mine.

I don’t know if this man has a wife or a family. But I’m sure, if he’s single and slimmer, he could’ve been a headturner.

As early as now...

I want her to learn the essence of praying. And I am glad that she's learning quick. Before, when she was 8 month old, she just clasp her hands to signal that she's praying. Now, she already has her patterned prayer. Ok na rin...I know eventually she will pray with her own words na.

This video was taken last Sunday night before our dinner.

Praying - Mhay

Sorry for the poor quality of the video I used my camera phone and our dining table light isn't sufficient :D

In Other Words: Perseverance

"By perserverance the snail reached the ark."
~Charles Spurgeon~

What is perseverance?
  • Perseverance is commitment, hard work, patience, endurance.
  • Perseverance is being able to bear difficulties calmly and without complaint.
  • Perseverance is trying again and again
  • These are just some of the things that explain perseverance.

It’s not always easy to persevere. Sometimes, it’s easier for people to give up when trapped in difficult situations…when problem arises…It’s easy to give up than to go on. It’s easy to do our own human ways rather than wait for the Lord’s direction when we’re caught between difficult circumstances…and when we fail; we lose hope, and just give up. But God do not want us to just quit and retreat. He is encouraging us to wait, trust, and persevere. Just like the snail in Noah’s time.

As for me, whenever I am faced with challenging situations, I asked God to give me the patience to endure. To give me wisdom to know the things He wanted me to learn from a particular situation. There are several instances that I almost quit but God kept on reminding me of his words in Romans 8:35-39
35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? 37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

I can’t help but put this in the picture. The Philippines is one of the countries in world who suffer from economic problems. We are one of the countries who are very much affected of the rice shortage. Prices of commodities are rising and continuously on their way up. The poor are suffering and the rich are doing great. The reason why more and more Filipinos are leaving our country, more and more are losing hope for our nation. But for me, our country may look hopeless but I know that God doesn’t look at it that way. That’s why in our church we are taught to love our country and keep on praying for it. We are encouraged to strengthen our faith and not be moved.

My hope is in the Lord. My identity as Christian, as His daughter is one way to remind me that I am more than conqueror in this world. That I can do all things through Him who gives me strength. When we trust...wait...obey and persevere…there’s no way that God’s heart won’t be touched and rescue us from whatever difficult situation we are into. Perseverance with trust is the key to a greater glory.

    The Weekend

It pains me to hear that many lives were lost last Saturday. Sulpicio Lines' MV Princess of the Stars carrying an approximate of 800 passengers sank and until now relatives are still awaiting for news about their love ones. It reminds me of the Titanic. The reason why I'm so afraid in riding sea vessels. The last time I boarded a ship was in 2000. Its one of Negros Navigation's ship where I had a not so good experience as well. Since then I promised my self not to ride boats since I'm not a good swimmer. I just hope that many will be rescued and I pray that God will comfort them...

I woke up early Sunday morning upon hearing the loud rush of the wind. I thought first "God, is it rapture already? Is it the day which you promised that you'll return? " But then I thought if it is the time, how come I do not hear chaos or cries? I heard sound like running horses on rooftops. I never thought that it was just Frank--the typhoon :D. My weird imagination, sometimes I scare my self :D

Our Sunday morning service went well sans the electricity. The praise and worship ran smoothly even without full band instruments. We were able to made do with the old piano lying in the hallway unnoticed until last Sunday. Indeed nothing can hinder us in worshiping God. This line is so true.."umulan, bumagyo, ayos lang...."

Sunday afternoon was spent cuddling with my daughter. The cool weather made it even more fun playing inside the house. The little lady was goofing around..doing funny remarks which left me laughing all day.

    Manic Monday #7

Are you a talker or a listener? Is it ever possible to really be both?
Well... based on this post I think I'm more of a listener. Is it possible? Hmmm...I don't know. Maybe. But if its already your nature to be a talker you can hardly be listener. :D

Do you think God has a sense of humor?
    Yes. Definitely! :D

Do you believe in love at first sight? Have you ever experienced it?
No and not yet. I think you'll get attracted at first sight or what they termed as like at first sight, but it isn't love yet. Love is something deep.

    Konting kwento lang..

Kagabi pagdating ko sa bahay nagbihis lang ako para umatend ng midweek service namin. As usual naghabol si kulit at ayaw talaga ako paalisin.

Bago kami umalis, sabi ko sa kanya, "get your towel and wipe your face.." sinunod naman niya ako.

    Goodbye narcotics

Before I forgot, I want to post this.

Last Saturday we went to Medical City to consult a Pedia-Neuro. I am a little bit concerned of Jaden still taking phenobarbital since, as far as I know her development is normal. (Phenobarbital is a barbiturate mostly used as anticonvulsant. The World Health Organization recommends its use as first-line for partial and generalized tonic-clonic seizures. Jaden took it to treat what her pedia termed as neonatal seizure)

There’s no pedia-neuro in Medical City near our place that’s why we traveled all the way to Ortigas. What’s more, I paid her consultation fee in cash since there’s a new policy that neurologist do not accept HMOs anymore. Anyway, back to her check up. I’ve been planning this for quite sometime since I’m concerned of the effect of the medicine on her. Her pediatrician does not want to discontinue it and even wanted her to take it until she’s three! Her lame reason? because that is what she learned from the seminar that she attended. Honestly, I’m doubtful on her advice…. in fact it really bothers me. So off we went because I wanted to hear from the doctor (a neurologist this time) that she’ll taper her meds or permanently discontinue if possible.

And thank God after checking on her. The doctor said that she is even advance from the normal development of her age. She said that she can’t see any reason to continue the meds. Thank God! She advised to just finished whatever is left and gave it every other day since tapering the meds is necessary to permanently stop it. I asked the doctor what would be the effect of the medicine on my child since she took it since she’s one month old. She said not to worry since the only side effect is that my daughter will be hyperactive, which is normal on her age. I’m expecting that her being makulit and malikot will lessen as she gets over the effects of phenobarbital.

For now hubby and I are so happy that finally, our daughter will no longer take narcotics. My next action will be to change her “unreliable” pediatrician and visit a pedia-dentist. I hope I’ll be able to accomplish this next month.

    A Simple Healing Prayer

I recieved this tag from Milette, which I will definitely share to let keep the candle of hope burning.

Dear God, we pray for the quick recovery of all the sick and the dying especially those suffering from LUPUS and CANCER. And may find COURAGE in their PAIN. Amen.

To those who will be tagged, all you have to do is keep this circulating.

Even if it’s to only one person. In memory of anyone you know that has been struck down by a serious illness like Lupus or Cancer or is still living with it. A Candle Loses Nothing by Lighting Another Candle.

    Please Keep This Candle Going!

There will be a cure soon. Continue to have Hope and continue to pray!

I want to ask Nette, Lilet and Kitts to help the hope carry on.

I don’t want to sound complaining...

...but yes its true, being a mom is not always fun, especially for working moms like me who needs ample time of rest...yes and I am not getting that. I am not getting a straight 8 hour sleep a day since my daughter is throwing tantrums in the middle of almost every night.

She seems to save her worst outbursts when I’m around. Her nanny reports that she rarely acts this way with her. She also shows mood swings -- laughing one minute and crying the next with no apparent reason -- that irritate me and sometimes results in loosing my temper. I don’t want to spoil her but I also don’t want her to fear me for being a disciplinarian.

This is what bothers me…and not until I searched and read about dealing with two year olds when I began to understand.

    I've learned that..

    • Toddlers don’t trust other people the way they trusts their parents.
    • Toddlers want to learn how everything works
    • These seemingly bizarre mood swings are simply the result of our toddler's struggle to take control of his actions, impulses and feelings
    • A 2-year old's world is still primarily "me" centered.
    • Toddlers still sees themselves as the center of the universe, but also, they're much more interested now in imitating other people's mannerisms and activities.
Haaayyy….the journey of a first time mom who temporarily raises her daughter alone…. It’s really an emotional and physical challenge.

I hope hubby will come home soon… I need his help.

    Sharing the Love

I received this very special award Sharing the Love from Vannie. Thank you so much sis for considering this blog one of those you love..I am touched.

This award is extra special because Crystal created it in honor of the donor who saved her sons life. Her son Noah had to have a heart transplant when he was just over a month old. This award is supposed to help raise awareness of the importance of organ donation.

So, here are the rules Crystal gave:

“The rules of this award are: SHARE THE LOVE!!! Share this award with all those blogs out there that you love. All the people who make you smile. All those that make you laugh. All those that make your day. All those that leave uplifting comments on your blog. **All I ask, is that you include a link to this post with the award and ask your recipient to do the same**

As you may have recently seen on my side bar, I have finally created a custom blog award!! I have wanted to do this for a long time but never came up with something that “fit”. I didn’t want just anything. It had to be something that meant something to me. And what could mean more than Sharing the Love by giving you pieces of my heart??

So I created this award in Honor Of The Donor That Saved Noah’s Life. I share this award with those of you whose love and friendship have enriched my life and made my world a better place.

I hope by passing this award around the blogging world we can all help raise awareness of the need for Organ Donation.”

I'm sharing this to Milet, Kitts, Nice, Toni, Lilet, Joey, Eds, Jane, Mai, Mec, and Jacque

    Parenting my way

Generations: The 3rd Pinoy Parenting Blog Carnival

    1. What are the things your parents did that you would definitely still follow?
    2. What are the things your parents did that you would do differently?
I am raised in a family living frugally… we are taught to scrimp when necessary. My parents taught us how to be content with what we have and how to live within our means. We are taught to work hard and save if we want something, a new dress or a toy perhaps. I even experienced selling something…going around the community…just to earn a little for something I want to have.

I also grew up in a family that believes children needs a little bit of spanking. I remember when I was young if we utter bad words my mother will hit our mouths or scare us that she’ll make us chew “siling labuyo”. That’s why we grew up never using cursing words even as a verbal expression. When we did something wrong we receive a good spanking from our father. His belt or rod will not spare anyone of us if we’re wrong. We experienced kneeling down the floor with mongo seeds or rock salt, arms open wide.

We are also taught to value our studies since they are doing everything they can just to pay for our education. In return we often brought home medals, awards or ribbons, which made them proud of us. We are not always on top…some of my siblings are not on the honor roll but we are not running behind the class as well.

We are taught of good values like respect, kindness, courtesy and modesty.

In conclusion, I think I believe I was raised well by my parents. The way my parents raised us is a good pattern for me to raise my daughter and future children. But of course something appropriate to the present and with a little bit of creativity.

Now that I am a parent my self, I want my children to at least experience the things I experienced one way or another. I want to pass on to them the values I've learned. I know I cannot make them literally sell something around the community like what I did before but I want them to learn to strive hard for something they want so as not to spoil them. We as parents want them to learn to depend on God as the source of our blessings and not on their parent’s jobs. We want to discipline them with love like what I've felt when I was disciplined by my parents. We want them to feel that they are love and that our family is a family filled with love.

I know it will be a challenge for us new parents to raise our children in this world that we live now…with all these new ideals, influences of medias, and new technologies. It’s always tempting to compromise. But if we want them to grow with good values that we learned from the past generation, it’s possible. We are instruments in molding them into good and responsible citizens.

In Other Words: Being an example

    "Finally, brethren,
    whatsoever things are true,
    whatsoever things are honest,
    whatsoever things are just,
    whatsoever things are pure,
    whatsoever things are lovely,
    whatsoever things are of good report;
if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise,
    think on these things."
    Philippians 4:8

    On being a mom....
I've been a temporary single parent since my husband left to work abroad. And because of that, I was left alone raising a growing child. For me it's really a challenge.

It always come on me that I need to be a good example to my daughter. Because what she sees or hears from me is what she'll think is right. That's why I am so careful. Specially in the choices of words when I'm talking to her or to anyone when she's around, in the TV shows that I watch, in the things that I read, in the manner that I'm dealing with her nanny, etc. I want her to be imitator of God's character. I want the knowledge of God to be her foundation and I want her to see that through me as an example. That's why everyday I'm assessing my self if I'm keeping on the right track. I share this as well to her nanny so that she'll be aware of the things I want my daughter to learn by example.

    On being a career person...

Being in a corporate world is quite a challenge as well. Having to work with different kind of personalities. That's why even before, I wrote this verse on a sticky note and put it in front of my computer monitor...just a way to remind my self on how I should deal with the different kinds of people I work with and I meet...and to my work in general.
I'm thankful because God gave us this verse as a pattern on how we should deal with our thoughts...filtering them with only the true, honest, just, pure, lovely, thoughts from God...

This week, Nina is hosting "In 'Other' Words" at her site, Mama's Little Treasures. She has chosen a quote that comes from a chapter in The Last Lecture called "Romancing the Brick Wall."

    Being a mom

Millette asked me a good question....

Question : What I love most about being a mom?
When I decided to get married, I knew then that I’ll be entering a life filled with commitments and responsibilities. I knew that it won’t just be the two of us but the vision of having little ones to take care of.

I wanted to quote this poem as it is so true to me:
    BEFORE I WAS A MOM

    Before I was a Mom;
I made and ate hot meals,
    I had unstained clothing,
I brushed my hair every day,
I had quiet conversations on the phone,
I slept as late as I wanted and I slept all night long.

    Before I was a Mom;
I cleaned my house each day,
I never tripped over toys or forgot lullabies,
I didn't worry whether or not my plants were poisonous,
I had never been puked on, pooped on, spit on, chewed on, peed on, or pinched by tiny fingers.

    Before I was a Mom;
    I never thought about immunizations,
I never held a screaming child so the doctors could give shots,
I never looked into teary eyes and cried,
I never felt my heart break into pieces when I couldn't stop the hurt,
I never got gloriously happy over a simple grin.

    Before I was a Mom;
I never held a sleeping baby just because I didn't want to put it down,
I never sat up late hours of the night watching a baby sleep,
I never got up in the middle of the night to make sure everything was okay,
I didn't know how special it could feel to feed a hungry baby.

    Before I was a Mom;
I had complete control of my mind, my thoughts and my body,
I didn't know the feeling of having my heart outside of my body,
I didn't know that having something so small could make me feel soimportant,
I had never known the warmth, the joy, the love,
the heartache, the wonderment, or the satisfaction of being a mom.

    Before I was a Mom;
I never knew that something so small could effect my life so much,
I never knew that I could love someone so much,
I never knew I would love being a Mom,
I didn't know the bond between a Mother and her child,
I didn't know I was capable of feeling so much.

Being a mom means experiencing the joy of…
    Having little talks…
    Doing silly things…
    Holding little hands…
Hearing sweet little voice that says…”mommy..”
Having a life so dependent on me…
    Cuddling tiny-chubby body…
Having her sleep on my arms or beside me…
    ..and Watching her sleep calmly…

My daughter is one of the wonderful gifts God has given me. I am just so thankful that God entrusted to me a little life… which only means that he knew it full well that I can be a good and loving mom, a mom who can be creative and wise in raising up a child with good character...a person according to what He wanted her to be.

Yahoo launched a Time Capsule Project last year where they invited people all over the world to submit to them photos, videos, writings, poems, blogs and other important memories that they want to treasure and share to the rest of the world. The Time Capsule project is now close and will re open on March 2, 2020 for Yahoo’s 25th Anniversary. So while waiting for the time capsule project of Yahoo to re-open, let’s make our own time capsule.

    1. Answer the question below:

If you are to leave an important memory, what would that be?

You can answer the question either by posting a picture, a video, writing a poem or whatever you think would best describe the memory that you want to share.

Of course, one of the memories I'd love to leave is a memory of a happy family..my family....

    Big awaited fight

Our Filipino boxing champ will be facing yet another challenge in Las Vegas. It will be another tough fight since he’ll be match with a left handed boxer just as he is. On the side note, I really don’t understand why they tagged him as hero.. Anyway, I’m sure a lot of fans will be going there as well to witness this fight. I can just imagine, vegas hotelswill be crammed by Filipinos.

    Done.

Hey, it’s really good to learn new things right? And reconstructing and redesigning this blog gave me a lot of work but allowed me to gain new knowledge on blogging. I’ve learned a lot! I’ll be doing a few more tricks and I’ll be fully done.

But I’ll pause for a while since I have to write a post about Schlage, the last task which I need to accomplish today...(tinkering...)

    (And now I’m done!) hehehe!

    Colon Cancer

    What is Colon Cancer?

    According to Wikipedia:

Colorectal cancer, also called colon cancer or large bowel cancer growths in the in the colon, rectum and appendix. It is the third most common form of cancer and the second leading cause of cancer-related death in the Western world. Colorectal cancer causes 655,000 deaths worldwide per year, including about 16,000 in the UK, where it is the second most common site (after lung) to cause cancer death. Many colorectal cancers are thought to arise from adenomatous polyps in the colon. These mushroom-like growths are usually benign, but some may develop into cancer over time. Therapy is usually through surgery, which in many cases is followed by chemotherapy.

Scary! Studies also says that Colon cancer ranks 6th overall, 5th among males and 7th among females. An estimated 2,963 new cases, 1,548 in males 1,415 in females, together with 1,567 deaths will be seen in 1998. Colon cancer increases markedly after age 50.

The Department of Health advise us to colon cleanse, eat right and eat healthy. It's a must that we take care of our health now. Not just for our selves but for our love ones.
